The Cost of My Continuous Learning: A Breakdown of My Monthly Investments
Hey everyone,
As a lifelong learner, I believe that investing in my personal and professional growth is one of the best decisions I can make. So, in this newsletter, I want to share with you all the resources I use to feed my curiosity and expand my knowledge on a monthly basis.
Every month, I spend approximately $200 on my continuous learning journey. This investment includes my subscription to Audible for audio books, Masterclass for online courses, and of course, my go-to platform, Playbook, for access to mentors, coaches, and a wealth of content and community. I also purchase paperbacks and hardbacks like "The Network Effect" and "The Sales Acceleration Formula," and often spend $50 to $100 a month ordering from Neo Books.
Here's a breakdown of what I use and how I use them:
Audible - $20/month: I love audiobooks and Audible is my go-to platform for them. I listen to audiobooks during my commute or while doing household chores. It's a great way to fit in some learning while multitasking.
Masterclass - $180/year: Masterclass has amazing courses from experts in various fields like business, writing, cooking, and more. I particularly love the ones on leadership and communication.
Playbook - My go-to for access to mentors, coaches, and content and community. The playbook masterclass content and network is amazing and has been invaluable for me.
Paperback and hardback books - $50-$100/month: I still love holding physical books and I order from Neo books frequently. Some recent favorites include The Network Effect and The Sales Acceleration Formula.
Substack - Free: Substack has some great newsletters on various topics that I follow. It's a great way to get insights and perspectives from experts in different industries.
Podcast app - Free: I listen to podcasts while doing chores, working out, or just taking a walk. It's a great way to learn while being active.
Business Class Network - Membership: This is a great network for entrepreneurs and has some amazing resources, events, and connections.
YGL - Membership: Another great community for leaders and entrepreneurs. They have online events and create great content.
Commune - Membership: This platform focuses on health and wellness and has courses and content on yoga, meditation, and more.
Group learning: Sometimes, I do things in groups with friends. We watch content together and sometimes mirror them on our TV for a full cinematic experience. It's a great way to have accountability and get some social interaction while learning.
In addition to these paid subscriptions, I also utilize free resources such as Substack newsletters and podcast apps. I am also a member of the Business Class Network and a member of the YGL, which provide valuable content and online events.
Here are 10 hacks on how to consume audio and visual content to make the most of your investment:
Listen to audio content while driving or commuting.
Use downtime during the day, like during lunch breaks, to listen to audio content.
Watch online courses during workouts or while doing household chores.
Create a group with friends and watch content together for accountability and discussion.
Mirror online courses on your TV for a full cinematic experience.
Use apps that allow you to switch between audio and visual content, like Audible and Masterclass.
Download content before traveling for offline viewing.
Focus on one course or book at a time for better retention and application.
Take notes and review key points to solidify your learning.
Allocate a set time each day or week for continuous learning to make it a habit.
I believe that investing in my personal and professional growth is a small price to pay for the benefits that it brings. While some may argue that spending money on learning is not necessary, for me, there is nothing more valuable than the gift of enriching my mind and accelerating my growth. As a young girl, my mom had an open budget for books but always limited me to one toy or candy. In my mind, investing in my growth is the least I can do for myself.
Thank you for subscribing and joining me on this journey of continuous learning.
